ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Claude Johnson is a basketball historian, researcher, and founder of the Black Fives Foundation, an organization dedicated to preserving and promoting the history of African American basketball before NBA integration. For more than two decades, he has conducted extensive archival research, collected historical artifacts, and documented the stories of the players, teams, and entrepreneurs who defined the Black Fives Era. A former executive with organizations including the NBA, Nike, and American Express, Johnson is widely recognized as the leading authority on early Black basketball history. The Black Fives is the culmination of his decades-long effort to restore this vital chapter of American sports history.
